Ministry Update - June, 2024
Dear Friends,
I am deeply grateful to God for all of you and the unwavering support you have shown us. I'm pleased to announce that we have welcomed a new member to our home. Juan Daniel joined us two weeks ago from the "Agape" orphanage. He is 18 years old and is currently adapting to our routines and daily life. uan still has two years of schooling ahead, so we are carefully considering the best ways to support him.
With new arrivals we take a few weeks to adjust and decide if they wish to remain with us under our agreed-upon conditions and rules. We develop flexible strategies for their life projects and will soon establish short-term goals to provide clarity on our expectations for these young adults.
A typical day in our home begins at 7:30 AM with a spiritual meditation breakfast. Around 9:00 AM, most residents depart for their educational institutions. Throughout the day, each young man is responsible for two household chores, such as polishing furniture, mopping floors, cooking, or watering plants. Those with work or part-time jobs have fewer household responsibilities. Most return home around 6:00 PM. While we occasionally share dinner together, residents are usually responsible for preparing their own meals using available food from the kitchen.
Our weekly schedule includes volleyball with church members on Tuesdays, indoor soccer on Thursdays, and soccer on a grass field on Sundays. We also make time for dining out and engaging in meaningful conversations. Saturdays are typically reserved for individual activities, while Sundays are focused on church and family time. Some attend church with me and others attend their own churches, but we aim to reunite for Sunday lunch, making weekends more relaxed.
We strive to maintaining a tidy home and fostering a sense of community among residents. Sometimes It can be difficult to find the balance between being a friend while also providing a structured environment. So to to maintain a level of authority and also simplify explanations of our relationship to others, the the young men typically address me as "uncle."
One important pillar of our work centers on guiding these young adults toward the best vocational choices and seeking part-time job opportunities. We emphasize order, discipline, respect, solidarity, and commitment while striving to balance support with appreciation for the opportunities provided.
Finally on a personal note, I'm thankful and happy to report that my health has improved and my psychology practice continues to grow. I am truly grateful for all the prayer support and kind words many of you have offered on that front.
Through Pneuma Ministries, God has enabled us to bless these young men. We remain in awe of His love and constant surprises. We extend our love and blessings to you and your families.
